I’ll be honest, I have a lot of respect for Jamie Lee Curtis. She is a legendary performer, one that many young girls look up to. But this film was a complete waste of money in my opinion. It’s a given the MM is somewhat of an unstoppable force, whether it be due to superhuman slasher abilities, or just because he’s crazy-the point is that we don’t know and we aren’t supposed to. All we need to know is he’s big, strong, and crazy. Trying to add more depth to that only removes focus from the original plot. Frankly, no one cares about Laurie’s granddaughter and her boy angst. Dedicating an hour of runtime isn’t going to change that. Maybe if it was a filler movie, it’d be passable. But as a finale to a 40 year classic, the nostalgia and fondness was sorely lacking. Once we finally see the ending fight between MM and Laurie, after years of stalking, fear, and resentment, we get a 20 minute fight with what amounts to nearly all of MM’s scene time, that is ended by an cringingly cheesy sense of smugness. Not only was the entire movie about..well not the main characters, and a swift ending, it’s really no wonder it’s tanking in theaters. Again, I respect and love Jamie Lee Curtis, it’s not easy doing all of those stunts for so long. With that being said, though, the writers and director should really have a sit-down with one another and ask themselves where they went wrong. This, sadly, was no slasher film as the audiences had cried for, this was a poster child for everything wrong with cinema in the modern era.
