I was hoping for an accurate rendering of the dark wit and black humor of Garmus’ book and was sadly disappointed that it was lacking and that the overriding cultural and societal misogyny of the 1950/1960’s was tamped down in this production. I also wonder why the screenwriters thought it necessary to add a set of secondary characters and a subplot that did not exist in the book. Maybe if Apple had hired an Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) type of director, this show could have been a superstar instead of a ho-hum romantic meander. Larson was good, but what a waste of her talents.
