“Deadpool and Wolverine” pays a proper tribute to the Fox X-Men Universe and other marvel properties throughout the film. As someone aptly pointed out, at some point the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) becomes more interesting than the stories within it. The cameos feel very on the nose, but in that unique way that only Deadpool can pull off (aka i loved the gambit jokes ). Hollywood inside jokes and quips aimed at studios and the audience play well into the fourth wall breaking and make for genuinely funny scenes.
However, some parts felt incredibly underused or unnecessary, such as the Deadpool Corps, who seemed to lack purpose within the plot but made for a good third act sequence. Paradox as a rogue TVA agent only added to the rough disconnect between the main MCU and the "Deadpool MCU ", But i appreciated the self aware nature of the TVA scenes.
Logan’s motivations felt underdeveloped, or maybe it was the pacing of the dialogue that seemed off to me , everything seemed so rushed with respect to Logan (the movie) ; however they did tell us they weren't planning on paying respect to it so i guess i cant be picky.
Overall, it’s a good addition to the MCU, much better than what we’ve been getting lately, but rough around the edges nonetheless. P.S. Deadpool’s motivation makes no sense at all.
