Emma Freeth

I didn't think is going to enjoy this series as BBC period dramas have really gone off the boil in recent years. However, I was channel hopping and caught a bit of it and was hooked! This is a brilliant series and I will watch it again. It is so much more than just a love story although that is the central theme. I think Suranne Jones is a wonderful actress who make the character of Anne Lister immensely likable. The only grumble I have is that there were no titles at the end telling us what happened to Anne and Ann afterwards as this is a true story, or what happened to the coal pit Anne was sinking? Or the deeds of Shibden she'd borrowed against? I was very frustrated not to know what became of them all. That was just left dangling. Overall very, very good.
