I would give this movie negative stars if possible. DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM IF YOU HAVE SUICIDAL IDEATIONS. The controversy surrounding the making of the movie far outweigh how “beautiful” and “moving” some reviews call it. From Steel having lied to the Bridge Authorities to gain permission to continuously film the GGB, to claiming that the cameras were mostly unmanned and just set to “track certain types of movement” on the bridge, making them able to pinpoint and follow people, particularly when footage showed suicide victims that spent hours in contemplation and distress that is clearly visible in the footage; I have an incredibly difficult time believing that the filmmakers contacted anyone to prevent these suicides.
The worst and most infuriating aspects of The Bridge, apart from the suicide footage, are the interviews with the family/loved ones of the victims, who had no idea that the filmmakers had the suicides on film and did nothing to prevent their deaths; only learning so at the premiere, or after the film was released.
In my personal opinion, The Bridge is no better than a snuff film crossed with torture porn. It has no redeeming qualities other than to show other filmmakers what NOT to do.
*personal aside: I was extremely relieved that when I visited the Golden Gate Bridge in Feb, 2020, that there is finally a net/mesh system below the bridge to help save people who do choose to jump.
