I found this movie on Hulu, and was hesitant to watch it by the trailer. By reading the reviews, I didn’t hear terrible recommendations, just ones warning me that it’s not a scary movie, more psychologically thrilling. But long story short, the “good” reviews couldn’t have been more accurate. I enjoy myself both sides of the spectrum between different types of horror. This one had a very compelling theme behind it.
It starts off with this widowed husband who pretty much betrays his kids after they lose their mom due to the father insisting to marry this girl named Grace. The kids hate her, and want nothing to do with her, yet the dad forces them to spend time with his new fiancé in some log cabin in the middle of a soon to be blizzard while he goes away for work. Strange things start happening (more with the fiancé) and she pretty much starts losing her mind. You have to really pay attention to the movie or else it’ll be completely boring. I didn’t think it was; the ending was strikingly jaw-dropping. You’re not really sure if the girl is going actually insane, or if it’s all in her head.
I wouldn’t give this a 10/10, but perhaps a 6.5/10. Not a movie not worth watching, but not one I would encourage someone to spend money on seeing.
