This was a great story of heroism in a time of literal darkness. The lead character, Maure Laure, is blind but she miraculously overcomes it...in the midst of WWII, no less! It is told out of chronological order, making it a bit difficult to navigate at times. Its told over several years at which we get to see the main characters really develop, grow and change. It's rare that a novel depicting Natzi Germany keeps my attention. But this one definitely did!
