this review is spoiler free, but my main advice is just read it now. go in as blind as you possibly can. it’s going to be worth it, i promise.
i have never written a google review for a book before because why what is this like use goodreads like a normal person or storygraph like a cool person but i saw someone give masters of death two stars on here and let me just say: no. that’s illegal. masters of death is the best book ever written and nothing anyone could ever say would ever change my mind. look, i read a lot. like a lot a lot. and i read on a spectrum. anywhere from certified booktok trash to nonfiction studies of burial rituals to classic russian lit to goofy beach romcoms to the most depressing litfic you’ll ever read to high fantasy with dragons, and i love it all. well, maybe minus the booktok trash. but all this to say, this book is my favorite book i’ve ever read. i know that is a very very bold statement, but still, it is so. it’s a love story, but not a romance, but not *not* a romance? it’s a mystery, a spider-web, a real true authentic story. it’s funny and feels fresh and new while not feeling overly modernized. it is a love story; but more than being a love story about two people, it’s a love letter to love itself. to life and friendships and death and family.
