I had this on my list to watch since it came out. But I'd never heard anything about it, so that causes me to leave a film in my B list of to watch films when there is nothing else to do. But gosh, it immediately had merit with Ethan as the opening is the film, giving his good words on the director and the story. Then the film begins to roll and I waited over eight minutes watching a character walk through a city of empty street in the dark, with a mask over his face.
Oh no, a director/producer who dated his film with the pandemic. Seems like the wrong thing to do. After all, even if the film becomes a classic, in 50 years people will only know what that's about if they are historians. Then I spend 40+ more minutes watching scenes that could only be the cinamatic trials of the Blair Witch Project trying different hand-held cameras in sub-low lit scenes. And not enough dialogue help me to develop an understanding of what is going on.
In writing a book the rule is don't tell me, show me. The film, to this point at 43:32 on the film counter has neither told me, or shown me enough to continue. I am pressing STOP now, sorry Ethan. I still support your efforts and look forward to the next one you invest yourself in.
