I read Birnham Wood for a book group. If I had picked it up casually, I wouldn’t have bothered to finish it. I found the characters both shallow and many also grating. Just to get through it, I skimmed paragraphs and still found it boring. The ending though a twist, is also like the rest both shallow and grating.
