If I were an A level drama teacher, watching a group of teenagers write, direct and star in a play of their own making there would be A*s all around. The actors learnt their lines, I could hear everything being said and nobody needed a prompt. That’s about it. The fact that this was a professional play at the Apollo is utterly appalling, I was cringing throughout as the actors shuffled around the stage, rapidly relaying their lines like they were in a competition for who can interrupt each other the most. I honestly thought within the first 5 minutes that I might take up acting, as it clearly isn’t that difficult. Just because you say things quickly and trot around the stage leaning on things doesn’t make it good; that also goes for screeching at each other and pretending to drink wine, good lord Daniel Day Lewis would be appalled. You could almost hear the blocking, not a single actor did anything remotely naturalistic. The only redeeming feature was the red light circling the front of the stage that came on every other scene as it totally blinded me and I couldn’t see any of the actors. Please go and see anything else.
