I came to Tolkien late in life, and I'm by no means a "professor"-level fan but I loved Lord of the Rings and even like The Hobbit movies, and the books...well, everyone knows how amazing they are.
I was nervous going into the show because of all the needless hate being aimed at it for months now. I was also afraid it wouldn't live up to Peter Jackson's adaptations, since those were the first movies I saw.
I really, really enjoyed the first two episodes. Again, I'm not a Tolkien expert, but I realize that there are non-canonical parts of the show. I don't really care. The aesthetics, acting, costumes, and music are all beautiful. Do they do Howard Shore's arrangements complete justice? No, but we've had 20 years to enjoy his music and are used to it, and it's hard to compare to that.
I urge everyone to give it a chance. Please let those of us who looked forward to this have our chance to enjoy it. If you absolutely can't stand to say you enjoy it, then please just cease the hate. Those of us who are enjoying it so far aren't hurting you by doing so. Whether or not you're a fan of Amazon, they've done some amazing work so far on this show and we need to give it a chance.
