Sonequa Martin-Green playing Michael Burnham is a great drama actress and she does a marvelous job casting the role written for her. But that's the only bright spot in Discovery. She deserves more serious roles, I see a bright future for this young actress.
I've been a Star Trek fan from the beginning in late 1960s when the original series started. The Next Generation was the best version of Star Trek. The following movies were all great entertainment. So, I can express a qualified opinion: Discovery lacks the Star Trek DNA and is just something else. It's a childish drama where the main character is always running and running and running (did I say running) with tears in her eyes at all times, saving her friends, family, fellow shipmates and the galaxy and the captains and admiral just follow her lead with great admirations. People die and miraculously come back to life. The great war with Klingon comes to an end in an instant with a female Klingon showing off a digital bomb switch. That's the most redicolous part of this comedy, drama SiFi or whatever you call it. It's a bad joke.
I doubt if the Discovery writers know who Gene Roddenberry really was and I doubt they have read any of his scripts.
This is a B-Movie (show) at best and a disappointment for Star Trek fans. Please call it something else, anything, but not Star Trek. It is NOT Star Trek.
