My husband and I LOVE Disney movies, like Lion King, Shrek, Toy Story, Aladdin (w/Robin Williams), Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Mulan, etc., but this one, though highly anticipated, wasn't that good (let alone great).
So much so, that we could NEVER watch this again, since that would be too painful.
It's pretty sad that we DREAD hearing any of the characters sing the next song, because the soundtrack seemed like it was thrown together the last minute just to fill in the space of boring scenes (which made them worse).
Practically every song made us think, "FOR THE LOVE OF GODDESS...not every set of expressions needs to be turned into a song in this movie; PLEASE make it STOP."
They also didn't do well building the characters to the point where the story MOVES you (in some way), and you effortlessly FEEL for the characters, especially during emotional, heartfelt moments.
I consider myself ultra sensitive, and I even cried during one of the Toy Story movies (I think the third one during the fire scene), during certain scenes of Lion King, and other Disney movies. The best ones really take you on an interesting journey that includes a fireworks of emotions and feelings.
I yawned a lot during this movie, though I had plenty of sleep, which made me wonder how it affected other adults (who love Disney movies), and children who usually have very short attention spans.
We just hoped for a better scene, chose not to discontinue watching it, and felt grateful that we at least didn't end up going to a movie theater to watch it.
This movie had the potential to be AMAZING, with some GREAT ideas, to include but not limited to:
- the most captivating, beautiful water horse scenes that seemed to invite one to trust in self, to Be BOLD in facing one's fears (to overcome them), to Be free-spirited and to go with the flow of Life (symbolized by the water horse and ocean), and to Be adventurous while having FUN (which can lead to answers, wisdom, true freedom, inner-peace and happiness)
- choosing courage and simply taking one "right" step after another
- truths revealed
- how the two, once separated families reunited and chose to live in harmony despite the past
We also highly respect and admire the theme of supporting fascinating MAGIC, that's not always misused or abused, but can also be used in highly beneficial ways for interconnected Life within this world and beyond.
Incorporating the elemental kingdom into this movie was also a highly creative, wise, and beneficial idea.
For these, last uplifting reasons, I chose not to give this movie a 1 star rating.
I've worked with children before, and many LOVE singing and great songs; but they also make it crystal clear that they DON'T like songs that suck.
So it would behoove the Disney team of Frozen, to take their time to TRULY put forth their best efforts next time, in co-creating---with their multifaceted and multidimensional abilities, skills, and talents---a soul-igniting and deeply heartfelt story and decent (if not amazing) soundtrack, that has the potential and unstoppable POWER to touch millions, if not billions, of souls.
