a mission impossible assignment for two british infantry grunts within the epic scale of WW1 trench warfare where men and horses were helpless casualties of mass artillery kept me amazed by the continuous suspense of how these two boys were going to make it. the cinematography of battle fatigued troops hunkered down in continuous trenches which lead out to the scorched earth devastation in no man's land gives realism to the hell of war and the obstacles the soldiers have to overcome. The compelling musical score amplifies the suspense and peril for the two soldiers. this first half of the movie carries the second half of the film which morphs to a Hollywood action genre reminiscent of "saving pvt. ryan" and "die hard" where the indestructible hero and his ever loaded bolt action Enfield rifle, survives hand to hand combat and withering gunfire from the enemy and even a hypothermia corpse filled whitewater river scene that took me back to "deliverance". mission accomplished: a riveting fast paced action story which is very entertaining with outstanding cinematography and musical score.
