Into the spider verse was my favorite movie of all time. It was honestly such a shift in animation for an era that is plagued by the Disney Pixar CGI style. Arcane and puss in boots following in suite showed that animation can still be a form of artistic expression instead of bland smooth blobs of color doing actions to a plot that really isn't that invested in itself. So good lord do I feel sorry for the animators on this one, the sheer number of art styles that blend and interact in this movie is just insane. 3d, 2d, live action, the list goes on and on. I don't think this movie will ever get the appreciation it truly deserves for its visuals alone. Into the spider verse was a new renaissance for animation, so to see them surpass it in Across the spiderverse is just flabbergasting. The story was competent and I see people complaining that gwen got too much screen time because she's a women...but your just complaining the spider person movies, was focusing on a spider person. With easily over 100 spider people it was pretty impressive to see them juggle all the characters at once, but I feel bad for people who never saw the first one as the sheer number of new and retuning characters could be overwhelming for the novice movie goer. But I enjoy fast paced movies that expect the viewer to know the basics of the movie so they can get into the meat. The sounds design was still on point like the last movie but I feel it was even better this time, paired with the visuals and it was an unforgettable experience. Lastly the characters and voice acting was just, muah, chefs kiss. Paired with an interesting twist on the spiderman story we are so familiar with I would say this is 100% a must watch. Along with all the references scattered across the spiderverse, im sure its going to be months before every small detail is noticed in the movie. Truly another statement piece that animation is just as good a medium for movies as any other. Peace
