A historical drama has no worth if it strays too far from the facts. The facts within this movie were merely touched upon, but the "rumors" which according to historical documents, had no definite basis, but lived on through the centuries, were the highlight throughout the film. The director, Yorgos Lanthimos, says, "The ultimate appeal of any period film, including The Favourite, is to always put story above history."
Story above history? I think not. Story above history only leaves us with "fake news" rendering the story worthless.
