Its incredible film making.
The banal story of a family, Their picnics, their gardens, their household. He works and the factory next door, she runs the house.
Except the factory is Auschwitz and the house is literally next door.
Wear headphones. This movie is ALL about the soundscape. The filming style is very reserved- there are no closeups- so everything keeps you at a distance, which means you are unable to understand the emotional nuance and you are left with a gentle ongoing discomfort through the whole thing. This discomfort is then transformed by a soundscape that turns into a slow, relentless, nightmare.
