The Porter to me is an in your face smash hit!!! Especially being a Jamaican-Canadian, it is a show that I take great pride in speak about. The costumes, the lighting, the photography, and the acting is absolutely excellent. I can tell right away that this is a show that many will not be comfortable with because it exposes truths that people would rather sweep under the carpet about the struggle of Black people in North America in the 1920's and the same struggle that we are faced with even in the modern world. It is sad to see that even since that time, society has evolved but the same things still happen only in a more nonchalant way. I do not believe it to be anyway shape or form to be a "white shaming" or guilt propaganda kind of show. People are not comfortable with certain truths when they are portrayed right in front of their face, but it does not take away from the necessity for them to know said truth. This collaboration between BET and CBC deserves more than 8 episodes in my opinion. I believe that it could be extrapolated into an multi-season show even further showing other truths and stories that have been left unsaid, understated, and untold.
