Very interesting book that I once owned and had the pleasure of reading!
Based on essays Thomas Morgan wrote while during the American Civil War where his job was training Black slaves how to fight!
Mr. Morgan gave lots of props to the role of the Black soldiers he trained, though they represented a smaller group when compared to the size of the North's overall troop size.
Claimed in his book that the South's purpose was to promote and keep slavery alive and that the South's army consisted of mostly very young or very old men, referred the the South as either robbing the cradle or robbing the grave!
Also worth mentioning that the educational system, particularly in the South was lacking during time of Civil War and greatly improved over the years after the war ended by those donating towards that purpose!
The book was not a very big book but the information within it's pages noted a very interesting story!
Even mentions things like how Black preachers were more dominate over their congregations than White churches wee something noticed even today, not only in Black churches but within some Black communities!
