The wonders that Verne encountered with the rich diversity of landscapes and cultures, travelling through different continents was reduced to a brawl in Paris and a whole episode on a train involving a feeble plot to get a train across a collapsed bridge with the solution of reducing the weight of a 100 ton steam train by removing a few shovels of coal. The screen play was dismal and the casting quite bizarre, save perhaps “Dr Who”, who at the speed they were going would need a time machine to get around in 80 days! An insult to a wonderful book.
