Growing up Asian American meant having to deal with high expectations from your family. For me, my mother was like Ming. Seeing Ming trying to prevent Mei from becoming an adult was exactly like how my mom acted when I was growing up. It felt like cathartic to see in a movie because I could relate to so much of thr plot/characters. Another thing I loved was that it was Cantonese. I loved the setting, especially the temple, because it was like the temples I used to go with my family on New Years and Sundays. I love seeing Cantonese representation. I recommend this movie as even though it is centered on a Cantonese family, I believe it will transcend ethinicity and race. It is a true masterpiece.
