This movie isn't trash, yet it isn't great either. Simply put, it's very much middle of the road. Will hardcore sci-fi fans be entertained, sure. The movie plays like if you took Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, wrapped it in a Star Wars vaneer, and stuffed it with bits of other well known sci-fi movies that have come before it. In other words, it does nothing new, and what it does do, it does in a very predictable way. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but definitely keeps it from winning any awards. There were moments of visual beauty, as well as fairly good action sequences. However, there were also moments were the story development and action seemed flat and a bit drawn out, with a no-high-stakes feel that lacked true intensity. Couple that with the CGI, which at times looked more like TV series quality rather than a big budget blockbuster (considering what Netflix spent on it) and overall you get a mildly entertaining sci-fi romp that was just average at best.
