This is my favourite movie of the year (so far) and that’s saying something among gems like Past Lives and Poor Things. Kore-eda’s direction is terrific while Yuji Sakamoto’s Cannes award-winning script is sublimely intricate and builds to an emotional crescendo. The soundtrack is eloquent and the acting so achingly believable. Special kudos to the child acting performances!! A transcendent movie!
