Black Doves is quite the romp! Sure, it’s ludicrously OTT, but it doesn’t take itself very seriously at all. The plot is quite complex, so I’d recommend putting your phone away or you’ll lose track quite quickly. Besides lots of people getting shot all the time, the story deals with universal human themes such as love, loss, grief, trust, friendship, guilt, conscience and redemption, but in a darkly humorous way. I enjoyed it.

Very British rom com, including a very quirky heroine, a class divide, an alpaca, a doomsayer and a Scottish dad with a heart of gold. Perfectly enjoyable.

I do not say this lightly, considering the rubbish that’s shown on TV these days, but The Wives is some of the biggest nonsense I’ve ever seen. The story just got progressively more ridiculous. The acting was pretty poor too, which was surprising, considering some of the cast are well known good actors, but none of them were on form here. It’s a few hours of my life I’ll never get back.

Beautifully filmed Western, brutal in parts as I’m sure the West was in real life. Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer carry the whole show, supported by an excellent cast and Rafe Spall makes a fine villain. I recommend binge watching all six episodes and paying close attention as there are so many strands to the story and it’s easy to lose track. The finale comes with the mother of all twists, I’m usually pretty good at working out an ending but I never saw it coming. My only small complaint is the sound quality, I had to watch it with subtitles. Best thing I’ve seen on TV in many years.

Oh. My. Goodness. I don’t usually write reviews but this was so shockingly bad that I felt compelled to speak up so that others don’t waste 1hr44 of their precious lifetime. There was zero chemistry between the lead characters, and the story in itself was far fetched and ludicrous. The whole thing was mainly set in Scotland, only for there to not be a single Scottish person in a main role, in fact the Scots were all cast as bystanders and pub dwellers. I can’t believe Joanna Lumley and Gary Lewis put their names to this pish (as we like to say in Scotland). I wish there was a zero star option, it’d be richly deserved.

I tried very hard to enjoy this film but gave up halfway. It’s truly awful, don’t waste precious lifetime on this claptrap. You’re welcome.
