I understand that the movie couldn’t have captured all the intricacies the book did, however they should have attempted a little better at the main character Darby. Her attitude and state of mind didn’t translate well with the addict storyline they shifted from Ed to her. Darby’s efforts of escape and her ability to outsmart both the captors in the book were not carried over into the film. This made her character fall flat as just the classic girl caught up in a thriller movie. Also, not even going to mention how offensive it is to suggest she didn’t have enough strength to overcome obstacles without the use of drugs… if you’re going to portray an addict, be respectful to those who have lived that reality. Only character they did right was Lars because his character is the least complex. They could have spent a bit more time on jay as well, her whole character felt entirely new. Disappointing they ignore the strength and intelligence we saw in the book. Let’s try to make some complex female characters with realistic storylines pls
