In regards to Ted Koppel’s piece about “Mayberry” on 8/14/22, he stated that people watched the TV program as an escape from all the issues of the day. While this may be true, I don’t think It was really addressed properly that TV shows of that time period were not in the habit putting such issues in TV programming as they do today. Perhaps Ted Koppel would do good to follow one of the practices of historians when writing about the past, which is to not make any judgements about the past through a 21st century lense.
