Hear me out
This show is not perfect but still very entertaining if you love the expanded universe.
First off, I grew up with the prequels but love the original trilogy just as much. I must say I find The Republic era of the timeline to be my favourite though, where we see the Jedi Order and the Republic as two separate entities at their peak but not without their flaws.
So when the Acolyte came out, I was willing to give it a chance...
The good:
The storyline is actually very interesting. It feels a bit like a novel of the expanded universe. A bit slow at the start but reels you in. If you've enjoyed the clone wars and other content from that era, you won't feel too disoriented with the characters that are introduced.
The fight sequences are also very cool. You see the jedi fight with and without lightsabers and display unique force skills that you may have seen more in video games which is also very cool.
The bad:
Yes, it has its woke moments. It's not overbearing but does feel forced at times.
I don't understand the cast. Disney has deep pockets and could've gotten better actors. Sometimes it's bad acting, sometimes it's over-acting but not all the time, thankfully. Also, we see a lot of characters that feel out of place and gives a bit of a "redshirt" vibe.
I loved Lee Juang-jae in Squid Game but I don't think he was the best choice in this.
The cinematography is a bit weird. Feels cheap at times. Can't really put my finger on it.
So I guess the show is not for everyone but I consider myself a long time fan and still found it enjoyable, if you can get past it's flaws.
