As a Serb, I found many inconsistencies that bothered me. Yugoslavia 1999 = Serbia + Montenegro. The first scene is in Catholic church even though no Serb is a Catholic. There was no war at the time, we got bombed March 1999 and our Christmas is in January, so the scene supposed to be in January. Characters keep saying how they fled war, which is impossible. The man who plays Katarina's father is a Serbian actor, Emma Thompson has a bad Russian accent, not Serbian. Marta looks nothing Serbian. We are not tanned. A Serb will never ever tell you they are from "former Yugoslavia" before they tell you they are from Serbia. We're proud of it. People on the bus were speaking Bosnian until Kate approached them. Then they switched to Serbian. No Serb would ever hear Bosnian and ask people who speak it if they are from Serbia, since we know they aren't. Now the most horrible thing - singing Croatian song on a Catholic Christmas while Serbs are Christian Orthodox and have been enemies with Croats throughout history. We celebrate Christmas in January. Very offensive.
