What a shame the 1985 version wasn’t in high definition because that Masterpiece Theater production was far superior to this one. Was it necessary to make the character of Esther quite so homely or Lady Dedlock so cold and unlikeable? Dianna Rigg’s performance was far superior to that of Gillian Anderson and high definition only focuses your attention on actors who seems to be unable to give us a convincing performance in this miscast production

Don’t read Janine’s review unless you want her spoiling the movie, it’ must be someone’s child who enjoys spoiling the plot and ending for people like me who haven’t seen it yet.

The review said this film did well in the UK during it's initial release but fared poorly in the US. Boris lurches around like Frankenstein but it isn't very imaginative and for a ghoul seeking revenge he isn't very good at killing the people who stole his treasure even after the gods swore revenge on all who dare. Found the whole treatment silly and dated, not nearly as much fun as The Old Dark House, another movie with Boris Karloff.
