This drama is exceptional, from writing to cinematography to the actors' acting, the directing, and the dialogues. Every single thing is just near perfect. This is what I call real writing. It does not shy away from showing what reality is like. Some kdramas like to label themselves as realistic but just fail to do it in some aspects. The writer is just too good at portraying what life really is. I love how everything in this drama was simple in a way people easily relate to them but behind the simplicity are the metaphorical and poetic meanings life has in store for us. Some people say they are unsatisfied with the ending. I too personally when I watched it first, I was unsatisfied. But the thing is with Park Hae Young, she doesn't want her viewers to only look at the surface value of her work. Some people harbour the "what I see is what I get" attitude then don't even make time to fully digest what was given to them. The ending needs full understanding. It needs our full attention. It doesn't mean the lead couple (Gu and Mijeong) didn't meet at then end immediately meant they won't end up together or it's labelled as an open ending because we didn't get an ending kiss for them. The drama didn't show us fluff scenes from the two of them in episodes 14-16 only for them to separate again. There is absolutely zero reason for Gu to leave her. It's good that the writer wasn't aiming to give her viewers fan service and instead stuck with a rather emotional and moving to end for each of the characters. When I reviewed the ending again, I felt a gush of emotions within me. It was perfect. It stayed faithful to it's theme which was liberation for all of the characters. It is beautiful that they we're individually shown trudging on their way to finally work their way to finding real liberation. Step by step, but now they see that life is also worth living.
I am hoping the writer would give us the novel versions for both My Mister and My Liberation Notes. I badly want the detailed point of view of each character, The way they are so intricately written but we easily understand them. I don't even know how to explain this. Whenever her characters appear on screen, it feels like the writer has portrayed a piece of me in her work.
My Liberation Notes team, 정말 감사해요! Thank you for being my comfort space for the past months. I met a lot of people who share the same burdens as me through this show. Thank you for teaching me about life. Thank you, thank you so much! I love you!
