I have read all three of Polly Crosby's novels and I think this is the best! The setting on the Suffolk coast is authentic and the mystery of who killed Aubrey is not revealed until the end. The persecution of a young woman for getting pregnant before she is married and for subsequently discovering that she is gay is believable. Eve's character is developed well, in the way that she becomes fascinated by her family history. There are a few small inconsistencies, but nothing that spoils the underlying plot. I read it quickly, in about 4 days.
