Deadpool and Wolverine is an entertaining piece of work, with lots of Easter eggs and fan-pleasing moments. It carefully avoids tapping too much into Marvel’s well-worn resources (one cameo in particular brings a brilliant and fitting twist) and instead is a celebration of 25 years of 20th Century Fox superhero movies.
However, it still falls into the same trap it tries to satirise: a shallow story of convoluted multiverses and timelines is basically just an excuse to create a sandbox for the characters to play in. The result is an empty world where anything goes, nothing really matters despite threats of ‘dying worlds’ and the likes. But it turns out, Deadpool is just the right character to play in that sandbox, and it makes for a highly entertaining two hours.
