I'm surprised it didn't warrant more positive reviews. Religion is an opium for masses, and anyone blinded by faith ceases to be human.
Tells the tale of Christian crusaders who are out in the time of The Black Death, to capture and torture a 'Witch' who can bring people back from dead. *Spoiler Alert* it turns out that the 'Witch ' is just a doctor , who keeps the plague away through science. She, however, utilises her skill to pose as a supernatural being. The crusaders deliberately spread the plague to them, as they believe that if they don't unleash the 'wrath of God' , the unbelievers would have gotten away with their sins- mainly being not believing in God and the Church.
Who us the real agent of the devil? Who is the real culprit? The one who uses science for heightened social status, or the ones who would slaughter anyone ruthlessly, if they see they do not believe in their concept of 'God's? A grim question that this gritty dark tale makes you confront.
More than a movie, it a very strong statement. Thousands of ladies were savagely burnt for being witches- all forgotten- through instructions from 'heaven'. Should we not stop and question ourselves, about whether our word from heaven is any good?
Black Death is a victory at so many levels. It conveys the point of view of both parties, in the 14th century Europe. Kudos to the makers
