I chose this film because it had John David Washington in it, as I'm a bit of a fan of his Dad. Sadly the son hasn't inherited the acting chops of the father. In the first few scenes they are trying to make us believe that he and Alicia Vakander are in love. How hard can it be to pretend to be in love with Ms Vikander? He looks entirely disinterested.
Then we have the car accident. We know it's coming because it's in the plot summary but there is no suspense. There are a few other stunts that in the hands of a director who knew what they were doing could be spectacular. Here they are dull.
Then there is the script. This wouldn't pass a GCSE drama exam, even this year. We watched as a family and every time he shuffled up to someone the entire room shouted "Hello... Do you speak English?" it becomes a catchphrase.
Then there is the unbelievable story, the constant coincidences and the fact that most people make decisions that make no sense. The simple truth is that the whole thing is contrived. After the accident, if they had just left him alone he would have got on a flight back to the States and that would have been it.
Another truly awful Netflix film.
