If you were building a house for yourself and family you would get the best materials and workers available. The foundation is always the key and the house that was built in this production of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was built by experts! The foundation, the framing, the rooms, the walls, the stairs, the chimney and the roof, made by the performances,costuming, hair and make up, the camera work, the lighting, the direction and the intrinsic value that came together to build this Masterpiece has made a classic and gives us a Master class in the above mentioned disciplines.I have watched it twice in one week and I’ll own it as it becomes available. Some won’t share my thoughts and feelings about this production and I’ll understand why yet those who resonate with me on this film will agree that this house, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is a Masterpiece!!! In closing, the things that the viewing audience did not see during the filming, the things that were shared between Cast and Crew is the mortar and the artistic decorations that made this house a home. I give this production a standing ovation that starts from the back of the balcony! This is one of the reasons why those in this industry do what we do, before,during and after Covid!!!
