After surviving in Green Hills, a tween-like hedgehog with speed needs to prove that he has what it takes to be a true hero. Sonic's chance comes when Dr. Robotnik returns with a new partner, Knuckles, who is keen on a supernatural emerald that turns thought into reality. Sonic finds his sidekick (Tails), and together they take off on an adventure to find the emerald before it’s too late.
Why see it?
This movie is a perfect sequel to the first and improves in every way. Past films based on video games have not been that good (I haven’t seen a critic that said any video game films made before 2014 were good), but this movie changes your mind about those video game motion pictures. Whenever the stars are in the spotlight, it’s always a blast since there’s more action and emotions (an example would
be when Sonic sees Knuckles for the first time.) This movie is definitely in my top 2 video game adaptions.
Why not see it?
There isn’t a reason not to watch this movie, but one of the flaws is its length. At 20 minutes longer than the previous, it still feels rushed. Yes, there’s a whole universe to establish, but it could have finished all of it in less time.
All in all…
This movie is great for kids as it shows the power of friendship with Tails and Sonic (and other lessons, like with great power comes great responsibility), but it would also fit adults who like classic comedy.
