I am no book critique. I am giving my opinion about this book as a general reader.

The book is a historical fiction about the travel of the famous Chinese monk, scholar and explorer Hiuen Tsang or in Chinese Xuangzang to India and the strong relationship between India and China during the Pallava dynasty and how it affected the modern day. The story is told in a very typical Ashwin Sanghi style, keeping one foot in past and one in present. Through several characters and incidents, various myths and legends were explained and exploited to build up the story line. It's an interesting read. But again like the Krishna Key, I have same complaint, that the build up of the story is so strong but the ending or the climax is so abrupt and to some extent lame. The end doesn't justify the strong buildup of the story line and pose weakest in the entire book. The characters are well sketched but few of the characters do not properly justify the actions they perform or the decisions they made. Specially Colonel Kishan Khurana, Dev and Jaya. The reasons for their actions are just not strong enough.

The novel is gripping and relatable based on the current geo political scenario. It is very well researched. Specially the part narrating the journey of the monk Hiuen Tsang is so thorough. So is the part explaining the influence of the Pallava dynasty on the south east Asia.

Overall I would rate it 4/5 stars.
