My husband and I were excited when we first saw the trailers and promos, and we invited our son and daughter to come and watch it with us for a movie night. They came (us living in Ohio, son living in Kentucky, and daughter living in Virginia), vastly thrilled about a new PIXAR release, for they love so many movies under that studio.
Not even ten minutes in, I started to get bored. Never in the history of our family had we stopped eating popcorn. Well, it happened. After the movie, we collected our bowls and I reopened the bag of popcorn and poured FOUR AND A HALF bowls of it back in. My daughter kept using the excuse to use the bathroom, would be gone for fifteen minutes or so, and come back with her phone in her hand. My son busied himself with the dog and cat. Here I was resting my head on my husband’s lap while he wouldn’t keep his eyes open, wishing for the movie to be OVER.
This was definitely not our reaction to Raya and the Last Dragon, which is an AMAZING movie! One of the best modern Disney films ever! That one we refilled our bowls TEN times (believe it or not) and put NONE of it back in the bag. We were STUFFED then! Unlike with Luca.
I have to admit the animation is okay on some levels, but with others, it’s just pure... childish. Especially the eyes and the way they open their mouths. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for the first time I never felt so disappointed in PIXAR’s work.
The storyline left many open gaps and unanswered questions, which is so not like Disney and PIXAR.
Didn’t like this movie at all. Two stars.
