Since I am a custom firelock maker terminology is very important to me. What young William was using to shoot at the stage was a FLINTLOCK MUSKET not a RIFLE.
A musket is a Smooth bore or, to put it in today's language, a shotgun. The inside of the barrel is as smooth as a babies bottom, or it should be.
A RIFLE has lands and grooves in the whole length of the inside of the barrel. This is what gives the round ball its spin to keep the ball flying straight and true to where the placement where it is aimed at.
I am, finally, ecstatic that the Cherokee are being represented correctly in the way they are dressed, and with their accoutraments.
So make sure your terminology is correct please. Thank you.
