While this movie was really visually and story wise well set up and shot, and Carey Mulligan really shines in it, at it’s core, it is another movie about a man who, no matter how repressed and unhappy about that he is, is still doing whatever he wants at the expense of a woman closest to him (and thats not even getting into the highly problematic “relationships” with people he was supposed to mentor). And that is a movie we have all seen time and time again.
