GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!! This movie is an emotional rollercoaster!!! Alot of highs and lows. But overall, I was both impressed and surprised with how this telling of the Infinity Crisis culminates. I was also surprised with how far into the past movies Marvel Studios reached. All those seemingly small details in past movies that never seemed to amount to anything at the time? In this movie, you'll now see they were more than just Easter eggs and head nods :)
While this movie is THE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE of our lifetime and generation, I do have some criticism that is a bit of a carryover from another movie. Captain Marvel. I'm not going to rant about her relevance to the story (which is questionable and leaves bad plot holes), but I am going to gripe about her performance. Frankly, I've given her acting more than a fair shake. I watched the Captain Marvel movie TWICE and found it mediocre at best. Then watching Endgame, I saw the same aspect I found disappointing in her standalone movie that I can't blame on bad directing. Brie Larson displayed such a limited range of emotion in both movies that you find yourself disliking her. She came across as arrogant and emotionally void. Her emotions she did display felt forced and fake compared to her castmates. So much so that it's just impossible to connect with the character. I felt a broader range and depth of emotion from characters with less screen time than I did from her. This is unfortunate as I WANTED to like this character.
It's hard to write a review for this movie that doesn't spoil the ending. However, this movie takes the Marvel Studios storytelling recipe and fed it Steroids for breakfast. To say it's phenomenal is an understatement. But the way this movie ends is not how sequels have traditionally ended. Marvel Studios took a gamble with this and I feel the payoff is huge. But this does raise questions of what Phase 4 might look like, yet also gives me a sense of how the upcoming Spiderman Homecoming is going to tie in with the saga so far.
