I didn't finish this book after trying several times. I've tried to read several Backman novels and I've come to the conclusion I don't like his style of prose. I'm in the minority with this opinion, I fully realize. I find his messaging heavy-handed, I felt "talked down to", every relationship clearly defined, every point clearly stated. I would much rather be guided to these conclusions then explicitly told them. Also, it feels like Backman is trying too hard to be deep, and meaningful, and because of that I just can't take anything he writes seriously. Perhaps that's the main reason I don't like his writing he tries too hard to be funny, and tries too hard to be insightful, and it falls flat for me.
