As a fan of Monster High (G1), this movie is horrifically terrible. Even to a new fan of the franchise, it’s just cheesy, cringey and very Disney-esque. I understand it’s a new generation, so things have to change. But they changed the story and characters in a very childish and immature way. I feel like this movie is “too afraid” to go back to the meaning the original MH had; where you don’t have to be fearful of who you are. It dared to be freaky and weird, which is what made it so lovable. But clearly Clawdeen spends more than half of this movie fearing her half-human identity, hence being too afraid to share her differences, which is what made the original MH so touching and heartwarming. Also, Clawdeen is half-human and half-werewolf, which the logistics of that are deeply confusing to me because a werewolf is already half-human so… what? Otherwise, the songs were pretty mediocre. Not horrible, but not good either. The costumes are very cheap looking, basically clothes from like Spirit Halloween but with only a $50 gift card. Some of the character changes went a little too hard, like Clawdeen falling for Deuce, Ghoulia speaks now, Lagoona’s eyesore rainbow hair and many more. I do enjoy Draculaura being a witch, though I’ll probably get hate for that. But she’s still a vampire? She can be both, why not? Overall, this movie has great lighting effects, sound effects and very nice background drops. To compare this movie to the OG MH movies, there would be no competition. The message of the original movies was so beautiful and captivating, perfect for anyone of all ages. While this reboot’s message isn’t bold, brash or special in anyway. Hope this helped!
