Meandering, overly romantic sixties "war is hell" period piece that tries way to hard to be art. There are so many gaps in the plot, script and characters that defy both logic and reason. The ages of the men for instance do not make a bit of sense. Hippies using Fillmore East light show technology in their own homes just didn't happen back then. It couldn't have. I was around back then. Ugh. Did anyone bother to read the script back to themselves? Do any genuine research? Think it through? What a mess.
Plots, sub-plots, sex-plots...The only bit of sense is when Robert Duvall's character, who has been spiked with LSD, forgets how to breathe. That's how bad it is.
