I went into this game with high expectations. I love the other paper mario games, super paper mario for wii is still one of my favourite games of all time. This game is not a bad Mario game and it does well as a stand alone, but it's by far the worst game in the paper mario series. The one thing that I can't get over though and the reason I had to rate it so low is the combat mechanics. Every time you encounter a Goomba or Koopa wandering the map the screen switches to a really annoying party style mini game which takes forever to play through. It got to the point where I would go out of my way to avoid enemies because I didn't want to waste 10 minutes fighting a single Goomba. I can respect Nintendo for trying something different but this particular decision really missed the mark and made the game so much less enjoyable.
