The Dry is a brooding, dark and incredibly tense film that functions on two mysteries; one happening in the present day involving an apparent murder-suicide and a mystery unearthed from the past involving the protagonist. Both mysteries are equally as compelling and makes the film incredibly worthwhile to the eventual revelations. The cinematography here is great, truly capturing the feeling of a drought stricken Victorian town. The subject matter is admittedly quite dark, with subjects ranging from murder to abuse therefore I don’t think this film will be for everyone because it doesn’t sugar coat this dark issues but rather presents them as they are. The eventual revelations that the film give are satisfying although the first one could’ve been given a bit more work as to hint at that possibility rather than feeling it came out of nowhere. Overall, The Dry proves that Aussie cinema can still produced outstanding and thought provoking films that can leave a lasting impact as this film has.

Haunting, reflective and at times extremely personal, Bait exemplifies the true potential of film as an art form and shows what boundaries can be pushed through this medium of storytelling. As a study in existentialism and the idea of tradition vs modernity this film succeeds in an incredible fashion, showcasing the fullest extent of meaningful cinema. For a film so short it feels so full of meaning and interpretation that could be found in many different ways. One of the best films I’ve seen in a long time, it’s just a shame that not many people will give this a watch.

As enthralling as it is complex, Tenet cements Christopher Nolan as a modern master of blockbuster filmmaking as well as multilayered storytelling. The visuals on display accompany the films unique feeling as just as much an experience as it is a film, this is aided heavily by some dynamic and fully realized action sequences that signify Nolan’s mastery of these scenes. The performances are all really well executed and serve the plot accordingly with a standout being Kenneth Branagh. Not only is this a film for Nolan fans, it is a film for true lovers of the craft, it deals with ideas that are as complex as they are original to the point where an in depth analysis is appropriate to comprehending the films full brilliance. Overall, this is Nolan's best film since Inception with just as much nuance and intrigue that every film he puts out provokes.
