Overall it was okay, but nothing ground breaking or would make me binge watch the next series. Timeline for well known characters from the books have been messed with quite a bit. The opening explanation of the silmirillion lore came across a bit rushed and muddled. The landscapes are good. The costume design feels a bit flat. The fighting and emotional scenes didn't feel grounded or hit home. I can appreciate a need to condense and adjust timelines and omission of more "minor characters", but considering it's a TV show is there really a need to when you can time jump by episode/season? Even for the smaller plot points they created. eg it might have been nice to see elrond and Durin in an episode then jump forward the next episode 20 years from elronds perspective to have the abandonment hit home a bit more. Was hoping galadriel would be more politically powerful and mysterious than physically powerful, but oh well.
