I have never written a movie review before. I was excited to see the movie, but made it a point to avoid the trailers and the initial reviews. Some were brutal before the movie even premiered. I liked the movie. It was funny, exciting, and gave me plenty of 90s nostalgia. Honestly, what more could you ask for in a Marvel movie? I was a little disturbed by some of the comments that I read about the movie. Some people were laser focused on the political message. There was a clear message here, but I never felt like that message was beat over my head while I watched. The comparisons to Wonder Woman were fascinating to me. Wonder Woman was the first female solo led movie for DC and now, Captain Marvel is the first female solo led movie for Marvel. These two movies do not need to be in competition (and should not be) with each other. At the end of the day, we all win when the pie is increased, not decreased. So why does it have to be a this vs that? In celebration of women this month, here's a wild idea, see and enjoy both movies. Supporting and encouraging additional movies starring female leads (like Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and even Storm) will continue to show major studios that they must promote diversity and inclusion in their movies.
