Art imitates life imitates art?
Life imitates art imitates life?
In this instance, this is unclear. However, what is clear is this film or, more accurately, the story of JT LeRoy proves (or should prove) that works of art stand on their own and should be enjoyed and evaluated as such. While we can and should nod to the artist, giving credit where it is due, the artwork is not the artist and vice-versa.
The only people who were disappointed by JT LeRoy, the only people who wanted to expose him were those who could not or would not appreciate the art for its own sake. These were the same people who took the whole thing so seriously, as though JT was a personal affront; sadly, they were entirely unable to laugh at themselves and gracefully accept the joke was on us.
